DM photographer’s gallery exhibit to assist organization aiding military families The exhibit and benefit for MOM starts Saturday, April 28, and continues through May 27. Gallery hours are 1 to 6 p.m., Wednesdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays through Saturdays; and 1 to 5 p.m., Sundays. The gallery is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Vander Vorst was raised on a farm in North Dakota, where rolling prairies and big skies instilled in him the desire to capture the beauty around him. A mathematician and scientist, he uses his photography to share the splendors of nature and the wonders of the night sky. OPT Underground Gallery represents seven other well known local photographers, many of whom are also contributing proceeds from their sales to benefit MOM. Military Outreach Ministries serves the physical and emotional needs of young military families (E5 and below) of San Diego and Camp Pendleton. Due to the high cost of living in San Diego County, many families of the lower ranks have difficulty making ends meet. This is in addition to the stress of long deployments and being away from home. Military Outreach Ministries offers them food, children's items, furniture, and other household goods to eligible families, while providing emotional support through home visits to families in crisis as well as offering them referral services and planned social activities. All of its services are free of charge. The Camp Pendleton chapter sponsors weekly meetings of MOMs Club for expectant mothers and mothers of preschoolers. The MOMs Club also offers free childcare to all those participating in the program.
