This is my last Buzz and I’d like to thank the Review for this space to relay ongoing Association board reports and important dates. It has always been my belief that good communication fosters a greater level of comfort and trust, which is primary to any successful organization. To this goal, the board agendas are always posted on the outdoor bulletin boards at the post office and Association building, and our meetings are open to all members and the press the first and third Thursday of every month beginning at 9 a.m.

With an eye on the future, and a respect for tradition, the annual Rancho Santa Fe’s Fourth of July Parade will once again delight the sidewalk audience and showcase its enthusiastic participants.

News from the RSF School board...

End-of-year update

Welcome back to the school yard. While it has been a while since we have written a school yard article we thought the end of the year would be a good time to catch-up and share with the community our thanks and summarize what a great year it has been.

RSF kids devour healthy Field Day snacks

Student-athletes at Roger Rowe School demolished hundreds of Jamba Juice smoothies, Einstein Bros. bagels with cream cheese, fresh fruit, bottled water and specially made energy snacks during Field Day sports activities recently.

Rancho Santa Fe resident recognized for academic excellence

Rancho Santa Fe resident Claire Nussbaum, class of ’15, a student at Francis Parker School, was recently honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children held by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY). Claire was invited to this awards ceremony, sponsored by CTY, based on an exceptional performance on a rigorous, above-grade-level test given to second through eighth grade Talent Search participants. Second through sixth graders took the SCAT, an above-level test scaled for younger students.

Since 1979, CTY has sought the most academically able elementary-and-middle-school students and encouraged their enrollment in the annual fall CTY Talent Search. The results of these tests give families a better idea of a child’s academic talents, particularly in comparison to the thousands of other academically talented students in the Talent Search. About 30 percent of the 2nd through 6th graders who tested this winter earned an invitation to CTY’s Awards Ceremony.

Claire joined other award recipients at the recent state ceremony, and was individually honored by Johns Hopkins for her academic performance and promise. CTY executive director, Lea Ybarra, commented on those students being recognized; “They possess an academic fearlessness and intellectual ability that will benefit their entire generation.” She added, “Parents who support and encourage their children, and teachers who inspire through their knowledge and passion for a subject, create engaged young people who are well prepared to lead and shape tomorrow’s world.”
