7-11 Committee removes Ashley Falls from school district chopping block; Del Mar Hills still a possibility

Members of the Ashley Falls School community can breathe a little easier now, knowing that a proposal to close their school was taken off the table at Wednesday night’s meeting of the Del Mar Union School District’s 7-11 committee.

Community journalism continues its rise with the announcement that two of San Diego’s leading coastal newspaper groups have merged.
Late Wednesday, Anthony Allegretti, president and CEO of MainStreet Media Group, and Dex Allen, president and publisher of CMC Publishing’s San Diego Ranch Coast Newspapers, announced that under the agreement, the Rancho Santa Fe Review will incorporate the Rancho Santa Fe Record and the Carmel Valley News will combine with the Carmel Valley Leader. The Del Mar Times will encompass the Del Mar Village Voice and the Solana Beach Sun will continue to be published as a standalone paper.

Police offer tips for safety during holiday season

Officers from the Northwestern Division of the San Diego Police Department offered guidelines at its Nov. 19 Community Information Forum for remaining safe during the upcoming holiday season.
Community Relations Officer Gaylon Sells, along with Lieutenant Anastasia Smith and new Northwestern Division Captain Miguel Rosario, took the crowd first through the most recent crime statistics for the 42-square-mile area, which is covered by the division’s 36 officers in three shifts.
