RSF Patrol officer helps nab drunk driver in Village

A RSF Patrol officer recently helped stop a drunk driver from causing serious injury to himself or others after spotting the driver late one night in the RSF Village.
RSF Patrol Chief Matt Wellhouser said that on July 22, at about 12:20 a.m., one of his officers was parked on the side of the road at the 6100 block of Paseo Delicias, facing west.
Wellhouser said the patrol officer saw a car in his rearview mirror turn left from Via de la Valle onto Paseo Delicias, heading westbound.
“He watched the driver make a wide turn and then go up off the street — the officer thought he was going to be hit by the driver’s car at one point,” Wellhouser said. “Fortunately, the driver swerved and missed the officer’s car. The officer followed the driver and called the CHP [California Highway Patrol] to report a possible drunk driver.”
The driver continued west, through the Avenida de Acacias and Paseo Delicias intersection where he ran into the sidewalk in front of The Inn, according to Wellhouser.
“His car wheels hitting the sidewalk prevented him from going up onto the lawn” Wellhouser said.
The Patrol officer told the driver to stop and get out of the car. He stayed with him until the CHP arrived and arrested the man for driving under the influence.
